Today, I would like to stretch you in this Season of Miracles with the subject of Traveling in the Spirit. First, we will study a Biblical account of traveling in the Spirit. Then, I will share a couple of my testimonies about traveling in the Spirit and what the Lord has shown me.
Biblical Account: Acts 8:25-40
Philip was preaching the Gospel of Christ, and an angel instructed him to take the road toward Gaza. Philip encounters an Ethiopian eunuch, sitting in his chariot, reading Isaiah. Philip was able to share with him about Jesus the Messiah, which Isaiah prophesied. As they traveled together, the Ethiopian saw water ahead and wanted to stop and be baptized.
It was during the baptism that Philip traveled in the Spirit. This is the description of the event.
“…both Philip and the eunuch went down into the water, and Philip baptized him. When they came up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord [suddenly] took Philip [and carried him] away [to a different place]; and the eunuch no longer saw him, but he went on his way rejoicing. But Philip found himself at Azotus, and as he passed through he preached the good news [of salvation] to all the cities”. (Acts 8:38-40 AMP)
Miraculously — the Spirit of the Lord took Philip from the site of the baptism to a different location. The sudden relocation of Philip defies our understanding of travel. As Philip’s traveled in the Spirit there was no time or distance involved in arriving at the new destination.
My Experience:
The first time I was transported by the Spirit, over 18 years ago, I was driving to a meeting in another state with a friend of mine. Suddenly, we were at the hotel before we had driven long enough to be there. We were both pretty stunned and did not even discuss what happened for a long time.
A few years ago, God shared a little secret with me. I was traveling with my husband and he was taking a nap while I drove. The Lord spoke saying, if I would spend this time worshiping Him, He would cause me to travel in the Spirit and explain the occurrence to me. I was so excited and nervous at the same time.
The Lord showed me a belt in my mind’s eyes. It was stretched out completely flat. He took the two ends, the buckle and the end tip, and brought them together facing each other. The rest of the belt formed a loop hanging down from the two ends.
The Lord told me that the loop represents the time and distance we were skipping over as we traveled with Him in the Spirit. It was the area that we did not have to cover to arrive at the destination.
During my discussion with the Lord, my husband woke up and asked “Where are we?” When I told him, his next question was “What time is it?” After I told him, and he said, “Impossible” and went back to sleep! We saved several hours in this long road trip due to God allowing us to skip over the miles.
Over the last few years, the Spirit of the Lord has been teaching me about a different mode of traveling in the Spirit. God has been taking my spirit traveling with His Spirit.
Let me explain this, my body does not leave my house. I see my spirit go with the Spirit of Jesus to different locations.
Recently, I wrote an article about what God was doing. This is an excerpt:
I was traveling in Spirit with Jesus and He said to me, “You will go places in the Spirit that you will never go in the natural.”
To cover more ground, Jesus is preparing us to travel in the Spirit to places that need a specific deposit from God. Over the last six months, Jesus has taken me in the Spirit to many cities in America and several countries around the world. In some of the places, He showed me what He was doing. In other places, He had me release a prophetic awakening. It is time to pack our spiritual suitcases and be ready to go at a moment’s notice.
This may seem a little hard to grasp, I know it was for me when it all started. Even now when I can sense it is about to happen — it still startles me. I am sharing this word, as well as, my experiences to encourage you and reveal the possibilities of traveling in the Spirit to you.
I want to end with this quote from John G. Lake:
The miracle realm is man’s natural realm. He is by creation the companion of the miracle-working God.
