Take “No” Off the Table

I have an interesting topic to share with you. Today, we are going to talk about Taking No off the Table. I am hoping these illustrations will help you realize how necessary taking No off the table really is in order for you to accomplish your assignments.

The Lord has definitely challenged me to think about the No’s that create roadblocks to my assignments. Let me explain a few types of No’s I have come across. Incidentally, they are all examples found in people in the Bible too.

Like those before me, I had to learn to take my “No” off the table. I have included the references so you can read more about the process each one went through.

Let’s get started our first No.

  1. Logic and Reason

Esther, a beautiful young Jewish woman, knew God’s favor had selected her as queen to a foreign king. But it was God’s assignment for Esther to be the instrument to save her people from destruction.

The Word reminds us, that God has prepared “a table before me in the presence of my enemies.” (Psalm 23:5, AMP)

God had set the table. He has placed Esther’s assignment on the table before her — to go before the king and seek the king’s favor to save the lives of the Jewish people.

God invited her to respond. And Esther did.

“All the king’s servants and the people of the king’s provinces know that for any man or woman who comes to the king to the inner court without being summoned, he has but one law, that he is to be put to death, unless the king holds out to him the golden scepter so that he may live. And as for me, I have not been summoned to come to the king for these [last] thirty days.” (Esther 4:11, AMP)

Esther’s assignment could bring her death. Esther responded by placing her NO on the table. And it wasn’t a muffled NO — it was a reasoned, logical NO.

Eventually, with prayer and fasting, Esther’s NO became a YES and she went before the King. Not only did she complete her assignment and the enemy was defeated — she was rewarded with greater authority and power.

2) My Insecurities

Moses encountered God as fire in a bush. God gave Moses his assignment —

“Come now, therefore, and I will send you to Pharaoh that you may bring My people, the children of Israel, out of Egypt” (Exodus 3:10 NKJV).

Moses had many questions. And God began to explain to Moses all that he would need to say and do. God even trained Moses on how to display His power before Pharaoh.

Nevertheless, Moses slid his NO across the table next to God’s assignment.

“Then Moses said to the Lord, “O my Lord, I am not eloquent, neither before nor since You have spoken to Your servant; but I am slow of speech and slow of tongue”” (Exodus 4:10 NKJV).

Moses’s insecurities were his roadblock. He was so aware of his speaking deficit, that Moses failed to see God’s equipping power.

3) Disagreeing with God

God gave Jonah specific instructions to go to Nineveh and declare His word to a city that was full of wickedness. Jonah’s NO was very clear —

“But Jonah ran away to Tarshish to escape from the presence of the Lord…” (Jonah 1:2 AMP).

Jonah did not want God to extend His compassion and mercy to the people of Nineveh. Jonah did not think they deserved God’s forgiveness.

God takes Jonah on a journey of understanding through the seed of a plant (Jonah 4). And shares His heart so Jonah can grasp the truth surrounding the why of Jonah’s assignment.

“Should I not have compassion on Nineveh, the great city in which there are more than 120,000 [innocent] persons, who do not know the difference between their right and left hand [and are not yet accountable for sin] …” (Jonah 4:11 AMP).

In each of these cases, God helped Esther, Moses, and Jonah overcome their NOs, and they were able to complete their assignment. God wants to help you complete your assignment too.

In closing ask God to reveal to you any No you have put on the table. He wants to help you exchange your NO for YES, so you can complete the assignment.
