Do One Thing Everyday that Scares YOU!
~ Eleanor Roosevelt
What if you could schedule a little time each day to work on your dream?
For me, the first step began with tracking my time. My Blog last week includes a Time Management Log, with instructions on how to find extra time in your day. (Read at www.cindy-stewart.com)
Today we are talking about the next step — making a daily schedule to incorporate your dreams. I have designed a Live Your Dream Schedule (LYDS), which was first introduced in my Live Your Dream Class. The information to sign up is at the end of the blog.
“Always, Always have a plan!” Rick Riordan
Before we begin planning, I want to share a few misperceptions about planning.
1) Planning is time consuming.
Yes, the initial blueprint takes time to develop. However, once you have built the blueprint it only takes time to fill in the blanks.
2) Planning kills creativity.
Actually the opposite is true. When you plan you can provide for the time needed to be creative.
3) Planning stagnates progress.
Did you know planning actually accelerates your process? Writing your plan down increases the chances of completing your plan by 80%.
So, let’s start the planning process.
Step 1:
You begin your LYDS with your top 3 Dreams. Once you have listed your dreams, then underneath each one you list your why.
Why am I passionate about this dream? (If you need help identifying your dreams, you may download my Dream Worksheet.)
These are my top three:
Dream 1: 5K
Why: Increase my mobility on the Tennis Court
And Cardio for my heart
Dream 2: Blog/Podcast
Why: Empowering and Equipping others to discover and live their dream.
Dream 3: Growing in my relationship with God.
Why: Develop a greater Intimacy with Him, and follow the plan he has for me.
Step 2: Scheduling Your Start Time
I use the SMART plan in developing my day.
Each action step is:
Specific
Measurable
Achievable
Risky
Time Sensitive
You need to schedule your day based on your dreams. The LYDS has room for up to three dreams for planning. You may be working on 1, 2 or 3 dreams on any given day. If you try to fit too many in, you might become overwhelmed. It is better to start slow and add to your list.
List the action steps you need to complete for the day; for me it would look like this.
Growing in my relationship with God.
Why: Develop a greater Intimacy with Him to follow the plan He has for me.
Start Time: 5:00am – 7:30am
1) Reading Bible
2) Journaling
3) Listen for God
5K
Why: Increase my mobility on the Tennis Court
And Cardio for my heart
Start Time: 7:50am – 8:30am
1) Set my App for interval training
2) Listen to Podcast
3) Cool Down
Blog/Podcast
Why: Empowering and Equipping others to discover and live their dream.
Start Time: 9:15am – 2pm
1) Outline my subject
2) Research points
3) Write content
4) Record Podcast
I am amazed at what I can accomplish by having clarity about what I need to do each day.
Step 3: Appointments and To Do List
The LYDS has a place on it to keep up with your daily appointments as well as the miscellaneous items you need to complete. This way you can see your day at a glance.
By committing to a plan each day, you will be amazed at what you accomplish. It starts by taking the fist step.
