5 Easy Steps to Achieve Your Goals: Use a Simple Framework to Live Your Dreams

As a business consultant and executive coach, I love helping people develop a blueprint to turn their dreams into reality.

Did you know that implementing just five small steps into your daily routine will maximize your ability to reach your goals and achieve great things? It is true!

Discovering your dreams and accomplishing your assignment depends on the steps you take today.

What I discovered in working with others—and in my own life—is the need for a daily framework. A framework provides a structure to complete the five small steps each day.

A framework also prepares you for tomorrow by using the momentum from your daily short-term goals to motivate you to reach your long-term goals—your dreams.

Remember drawing a house as a child? You probably drew the floor, two walls, and two sides of a roof. It took five lines to build the house.

The five lines it took to draw the house equates to the five small steps that create yourdaily framework.

What are the five small steps in your framework for daily success?

They are:

1. Choose One Focus
2. Consistency
3. Track Progress
4. Learn from Mistakes
5. Celebrate Victories

Let’s break these down.

1. Choose One Focus

If you are like me, your days are filled with multiple things to accomplish, from picking up laundry to setting deadlines.

Many of us are working at one task while also working on our dream for the future. But choosing just one focus each day lays the foundation for reaching your professional goals—and any of your dreams.

For me, the day looks like:

4:00 a.m. Reading and Prayer
5:00 a.m. Finish Writing Podcast/Blog
7:45 a.m. Board Meeting
10:00 a.m. Podcast Recording
Noon Meetings
4:00 p.m. Home/Rest/Dinner
6:00 p.m. Teaching Class

My one focus for this day was the podcast. This became my foundation out of all the other daily (and often unavoidable) tasks.

This focus was one small step toward my next great priority of connecting others to their dream.

2. Consistency

Consistency—and its cousin, intentionality—is the second step in planning for a successful, goals driven day.

Consistency is one of the exterior walls of my “house.” Each week, I write for my blog, which I then use to record as a podcast. I am on my thirty-first blog.

It is this consistency that moves me into my next great thing.

Today, I have intentionally scheduled time to work on one of the avenues I use to move closer to my dream.

3.  Track progress

Tracking progress is another exterior wall of the house. The advantage of including this step in a daily framework is so you can track what you are able to accomplish.

Yesterday, I began writing a blog post, but I was unable to complete it during my scheduled writing time. So, this became the first task on my schedule for today. I needed to finish writing so I would be prepared to record my podcast.

Sometimes the task you have planned cannot be finished in a day. When this happens, break the big task down into manageable short-term goals and track your daily progress.

This will keep you motivated, maximize your effort, and help you get unstuck

4. Learn from Mistakes

Learning from mistakes is one side of the pointed roof of your house.

Not every day is perfect. Not everything will go the way you planned. So, you adjust your plans and learn if you make mistakes.

I have been writing long enough to know how much time it takes me to complete two blogs, which is my goal when I sit down to write. However, yesterday I attended an event and learned that I did not allow enough time for the occasion.

The extra time at the event ate into my writing time. So, at 5am this morning, I finished up!

I learned that next time, I need to build more time into my daily framework for writing, especially if other tasks are competing for my attention.

5. Celebrate Victories

Celebrating victories is the other part of your roof—it completes your house.

When you finish each small step, take time to CELEBRATE! This is the most important step.

When you celebrate your accomplishments, it reinforces the other four steps and motivates you to take on the next goal in your framework.

Did you complete what you set out to do? By incorporating these five small steps—choosing one focus, being consistent, tracking your progress, learning from mistakes, celebrating victories—you will have a solid daily framework to reach your life goals and achieve your dreams.

Each step makes it all worthwhile. Remember, you are the best investment you can make.
