“By failing to prepare, you are preparing to fail.”
― Benjamin Franklin
I have been amazed at what I have been able to accomplish by having a Blueprint for Success. We are only a few weeks into the new year and one of my major plans for this year had become a reality. It was offering one-hour webinars each quarter to equip people in specific areas and here we are.
I hosted my first webinar last week! I will have the Replay link at the end of the Podcast and Blog. As I developed the webinar, I realized I had so much more to help you meet your goals and live your dreams than could be shared in 1 hour. So I have developed an online class, VIP Next Level Mentoring: Live Your Dream and Experience Your Passion. The details can be found at the end of this blog.
Last week we talked about the importance of discovering the “Why” behind our actions.
Discovering your why, the reason you do what you do, is one of most important pieces to living a fulfilled life.
Once we discover our “WHY” then we must develop a Blueprint to facilitate our dreams into reality. Our Blueprint takes our “Why” and develops a systematic schedule in order to get it accomplished.
We know that if it doesn’t get on our schedule — then it doesn’t get done!
Why is a Blueprint so important?
A Blueprint breaks the cycle of allowing our life to schedule us. In planning each day with purpose, we reclaim the control over our lives.
A Blueprint cuts out the excess noise in our life by keeping us focused on what is important. One of the loudest noises in our culture today is social media. Your Blueprint will help you choose how much and when you want to engage. Think about it — would you rather spend your time living your dream or spend your time watching someone else live theirs?
A Blueprint instills confidence in your future because you know where you are going.
A Blueprint gives clarity and keeps you from reinventing each day trying to figure out what you need to do.
4 Steps in developing your Blueprint
- Identify what you want to accomplish by brainstorming
A good way to brainstorm is by listing all that you want to accomplish by the end of the year.
When I finished my list, I had 12 things I want to accomplish. These are three of mine, I want to write another book, be consistent in my weekly strength training and spend 3 weeks this summer traveling through England and Scotland with my husband.
- Categorize your list
Next, categorize your list between habits and achievements. Looking at my list, I have two achievements goals on my list. They are writing a book and traveling. Once they are completed, they are checked off my list.
My other goal, increase my weekly strength training is a habit goal. In order to increase and then maintain, the strength training will need to become a lifestyle change that is integrated as a habit, just like brushing and flossing your teeth. Your habit goals take 66 days before it becomes a lifestyle change.
- Determine Timing to Implement
The process in determining the timing of implementation begins with ranking them in order of importance. Next is to determine which goals will be implemented in each quarter. It would be overwhelming to try to implement all your goals for the year at the same time.
I have 12 goals for this year, 7 of them are achievement goals and 5 of them are habit goals. As I mentioned earlier, hosting Webinars and Online Classes, they are in my 1st quarter goals, as well as the strength training. In my 2nd quarter goal is the travel and the 3rd quarter goal is writing. Traveling and writing works better in the summer months due to my work being slower.
- Schedule the Goals
This step is critical. It is where you break down your goals into weekly scheduled actions. We know that if your goals don’t get scheduled, they will not get done! Take your goals for the 1st quarter and schedule them in.
For example, my strength training is on Thursday, 7:30am-8:15am. I would like to do this more often, but honestly I don’t like strength training. I am a runner and I play tennis, so my goal is to develop a weekly habit of strength training.
Each day needs to have a plan. There will be times of unforeseen interruptions in your schedule, but going back to your blueprint will enable you to pick up where you left off.
Your Blueprint for success will provide the clarity you need to accomplish your dreams for the year. It will also keep you accountable by mapping out the plan for each day, each week, and each month. By following your Blueprint plan, you will arrive at the end of the year knowing you have achieved the plan and implemented effective lifestyle changes.
