I Know Who I Am

I have discovered a new song, well at least a new song to me, I Know Who I Am. It is sung by Sinach. Every time I hear this song, I have to dance — I have added the YouTube link so you can dance, too!

This is a song of declaration of who we are in Christ. When we declare the truth of who we are, there is a response. Our thoughts, our emotions, and our bodies aligning with the truth brings a response. Both science and the Bible agree — truth breathes life.

In the very simplest form, Dr. Caroline Leaf describes this process in her book Switch on Your Brain.

“ Research shows that 75-98% of our mental, physical, and behavioral illness comes from one’s thought life.”

What is really being said here is —

The thoughts we choose to think determine our health.

Dr. Leaf continues, “Science and Scripture both show that we are wired for love and optimism, and so when we react by thinking negatively and making negative choices, the quality of our thinking suffers…”

The Scripture states, “For as he thinks in his heart, so is he” (Proverbs 23:7 NKJV). It is our thought life which determines our capacity. So we must know truth and be able to declare who we are as opposed to the lies.

This is one of the reasons I love the song, I Know Who I Am, because the words are based on Scriptures. Due to copyright infringement I cannot list the actual lyrics, but you can listen to the song on Youtube. However, I can share the Scriptures, which the lyrics are based on.

1) Who does God say you are?

“So, as God’s own chosen people, who are holy [set apart, sanctified for His purpose] and well-beloved [by God Himself] …” (Colossians 3:12 AMP).

You are chosen to be loved by God — well loved. And when you say yes to His love, through Jesus, you are made holy. Holy means to be washed clean and made pure, and to be set apart for the purposes that God has for you.

God says your identity is found in Him.

2) What purpose do you carry for God?

I think of the story of Esther as I am writing this. She was given the opportunity by God to save her people, the Jews, but she was hesitant. Her Uncle Mordecai said to her, “Yet who knows whether you have come to the kingdom for such a time as this?” (Esther 4:14 NKJV) Esther did step into her purpose and save her people.

We have been born into a time designed just for us. Two weeks ago, I wrote about being Uniquely You. You and only you can fulfill the purposes God has planned. Which means, just like God purposed Esther, you carry a purpose too. God wants to partner with you in your purpose!

God says your purpose in life is important.

3) How has God prepared me for where I am?

Jesus says He calls you friend. And because you are His friend, He has given Holy Spirit to live in you and empower you every step of the way.

Holy Spirit gives you solutions to your problems. He gives you the power to be healed and heal. He gives you truth about all situations.

“Now to Him who is able to [carry out His purpose and] do superabundantly more than all that we dare ask or think [infinitely beyond our greatest prayers, hopes, or dreams], according to His power that is at work within us (Ephesians 3:20 AMP).

God says He is partnering with you beyond what you can imagine.

These three areas of truth can become declarations for you. Below are Declarations you can read each day to bring life to your thoughts, your emotions, and your bodies.

  • I say Yes to Jesus’s love
  • I am chosen by God
  • I am well-loved by God
  • I am washed clean, made holy and set apart for His purposes
  • Holy Spirit lives in me
  • My identity is found in God
  • I am living in the timing of God
  • I am the only one who can fulfill my purpose
  • My purpose in life is important to God
  • I am empowered by His presence in all that I do
  • Holy Spirit provides me with solutions
  • Holy Spirit gives me the power to heal
  • Holy Spirit reveals truth to me
  • God is partnering with me in life beyond anything I can imagine
  • Jesus calls me His friend

If you will commit to declaring these truths each day, you will see a difference in your life.

“You will also declare a thing, And it will be established for you;
So light will shine on your ways” (Job 22:28 NKJV).
